Harare – The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show is known for its mix of business, entertainment and family fun. But this year, thousands of visitors are also walking away with something far more valuable – access to free medical services.
Discovery Ambulance Services has set up a comprehensive health station at the Harare Showgrounds, where visitors are receiving free health screenings, blood pressure and sugar checks, first aid tips, medication and more. The initiative is being rolled out under the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme, a programme aligned with government’s Vision 2030 agenda.
For many, it’s a welcome relief. Healthcare in Zimbabwe remains expensive and out of reach for vulnerable families, but Discovery Ambulance says no one should be left behind.
“Our duty is to save lives. We will not stop doing good until we have a modern and industrialised Zimbabwe,” said David Munowenyu, the organisation’s founder and CEO, who is also a Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial member.
The presence of Discovery Ambulance at the show has been described as a game-changer, providing essential health checks for people who might otherwise never step into a clinic. By removing financial barriers, the service ensures that both young and old, including those from marginalised communities, receive basic attention that could save lives.
But Munowenyu insists the mission goes beyond responding to emergencies. Discovery Ambulance is working to build a culture of preparedness. Its outreach programmes include CPR and First Aid training, which aim to equip ordinary citizens with skills to respond before professional help arrives.
“As a nation, we cannot wait for emergencies to strike. We must prepare, educate and empower communities to respond effectively,” Munowenyu has previously emphasised.
The company’s model reflects a wider push from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to transform healthcare delivery and strengthen resilience. Vision 2030, the government’s long-term roadmap, commits to ensuring that “no one and no place is left behind” in access to health services. Discovery Ambulance has placed itself at the centre of that mission, translating policy goals into visible action on the ground.
The Harare Show initiative is also about visibility and trust. By embedding itself in such a public national event, Discovery Ambulance is reinforcing its image as more than a private service provider. It is positioning itself as a partner in national development, standing shoulder to shoulder with government in addressing systemic challenges in healthcare.
Attendees at the show have praised the move, saying it has given them a chance to check their health status without worrying about cost. For many Zimbabweans, untreated conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes remain silent killers due to lack of access to regular check-ups.
By tackling such issues head-on, Discovery Ambulance is not only saving lives in emergencies but also pushing health awareness to the centre of community life.
With an expert team of medical professionals and volunteers, the organisation is steadily building a reputation as a leader in emergency response and community health advocacy. Its growing footprint in Zimbabwe’s health sector demonstrates how partnerships between civic organisations and government can deliver meaningful impact.
For now, the buzz at the Agricultural Show is not only about livestock, tractors and exhibitions. It’s also about health, resilience and the reminder that sometimes the most important takeaway from such an event is the gift of life.
